Authorities believe the woman who was gunned down in a travel trailer in Largo was in a relationship with the man who killed her.
Deputies responded to the 13400 block of West Rena Drive at about 11:15 a.m. Thursday, after someone called 911 to report a woman was injured.
Christine Giles, 28, of Seminole was pronounced dead at the scene. Deputies said she was shot multiple times.
With the help of witnesses, deputies identified the gunman as Nathaniel Yates, 32, of Largo.
According to deputies, Yates and Giles were in a trailer with another man identified as 61-year-old Wesley Warn. Deputies said Yates became agitated and threatened Warn with a .380 caliber handgun. Then he turned the gun on Giles and opened fire. Warn was not injured.
Witnesses said Yates and Giles were dating for several months, but Giles broke up with Yates after he had threatened her with violence. However, investigators suspect they were dating when Giles was killed.
Less than six hours after the shooting, deputies say Yates was arrested for an unrelated incident in which he faces charges of Burglary, Simple Battery, Resisting Arrest without Violence, Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer and Battery on Health Service Personnel. Deputies did not release any additional details regarding that incident.
Yates was taken to a local hospital for injuries he suffered during the incident.
On Saturday, he was charged with one count of First Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Assault.
Deputies said Yates remains in custody at a local hospital.
No further details are immediately available.
