If you were at the Clearwater Beach Super Boat National Championship on Sunday you may have been wondering why the race was stopped.

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies say it was because a drunk and naked Orlando man swam into the middle of the race course.

Race officials had to stop the race so they could safely remove Richard Clayton, 25, who was spotted in the water while boats were racing.

Deputies say Clayton was not wearing any clothing and he was disorderly when they removed him from the water around 3:45 p.m Sunday.

Clayton was charged with disorderly intoxication-disturbance and violation of parole for a DUI conviction in Seminole County.
