Clearwater police detectives searching for suspect who carjacked victim outside Home Depot

CLEARWATER, Fla. (WFLA) – Clearwater police detectives are investigating a carjacking that occurred outside a Home Depot store Wednesday morning.

The crime occurred just after 11 a.m. outside the store located at 2495 Gulf-to-Bay Boulevard.

Police say the suspect went into the store and stole a hammer before going outside to try and carjack a truck in the contractor loading zone. The suspect threatened two men with the hammer.

When that was unsuccessful, the suspect went to the parking lot and climbed into the driver’s seat of another truck and threatened the passenger at hammer-point.

The 17-year-old passenger got out of the vehicle.

The suspect took off in the 2007 silver Dodge 3500 Megacab truck, headed east on the Courtney Campbell Causeway into Tampa.

Anyone with information on the case should call Clearwater police at 727-562-4242.
