A hapless burglar had to be rescued by deputies after he got stuck in a bathroom window of a house he was trying to rob.

Deputies said 32-year-old Michael Russell managed to get half of his body through a broken bathroom window at a home in Seminole Sunday. His chest and head were sticking out of the window for more than an hour, according to an affidavit.

Deputies said a neighbor heard his calls for help and called 911. Then officers arrived at the scene to help the man wiggle his way out of the window.

Officers found rubber gloves and a pocket knife in Russell’s possession. They also discovered wire cutters and a screwdriver he had dropped on the ground. Investigators believe he was trying to steal power tools and construction equipment left inside the home.

He is charged with armed burglary and possession of burglary tools. Online records show he was also charged with possession of a controlled substance, but no details regarding the charge were given in the affidavit.

Russell, a transient who lives in St. Petersburg, has a lengthy criminal rap sheet with charges including battery, DUI and disorderly conduct among other charges.

He’s being held at the Pinellas County Jail on a  $55,000 bond.
