LARGO, Fla. (WFLA) - The bodies of two women were found at the scene of a mobile home fire in Largo early Friday morning, according to the Largo Police Department.
Emergency workers responded to reports of a fire at the Avalon mobile home park on U.S. Highway 19 at about 5:17 A.M.
Neighbor John Bates was woken up by strange sounds coming from the mobile home next door.
"There was a real loud thump," he said. "And the wall of the unit next to me, where the ladies lived, collapsed and the flames shot out," Bates said.
He and at least two other neighbors tried to get inside.
"But once we got the door open, unfortunately, the smoke and the flame had entirely engulfed the inside, we couldn't go in," Bates said.
When fire crews entered, they discovered the bodies.
Neighbors tell News Channel 8 one of the women owned the home; the other lived with her.
Largo police detectives and a state fire marshal were called to the scene.
"At this time, the fire does seem suspicious," said Lt. Randall Chaney, a spokesman for the agency.
The names of the victims haven't been released.
