ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) — A 13-year-old boy shot himself in the leg on Thursday.

St. Petersburg police said the boy accidentally shot himself in the 1900 block of 11th Avenue at around 7:35 p.m.

The boy went to a nearby church for help, police said.

St. Pete police said the boy’s injuries are not considered life-threatening. It was first thought the boy was shot while riding his bicycle, but he was actually riding to get help after wounding himself.

Investigators are working to find out where the gun came from.
