TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (WFLA) — The Tarpon Springs Police Department arrested two people Thursday after a child was found bruised and nearly naked outside a Walgreens, according to court documents.

Arrest affidavits said that the child, a 10-year-old boy, was found outside a Walgreens bruised and wearing nothing but his underwear.

Police said the child had a swollen wrist and injuries across his entire body and neck “consistent with being struck repeatedly with a belt.”

“The victim stated he ran away from his residence because he was ‘tied up and beat,’ and he stated he was ‘tortured,'” the documents said. “The victim eventually stated he was beat with a belt and ran away from home.”

According to police, officers made contact with Tarpon Springs residents Dequitisie Greek Collins, 50, and Latraina Kermaine Anderson, 30.

After they were both read their rights, they both said they struck the child around four to five times on the behind with a belt, the documents said.

Officers said that after they showed Collins the injuries on the child, he told them that the boy had moved while being disciplined.

Anderson said she may have hit him on the behind and the ankle but could not explain the child’s other injuries.

Both were arrested on charges of child abuse and booked into the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
