'Operation Cast Out' busts 35 unlicensed contractors in Madeira Beach

MADEIRA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) - Investigators arrested 35 suspects with 65 criminal charges during a 3-day undercover operation coined “Operation Cast Out” in Madeira Beach.

The undercover sting was conducted at a vacant store on 150th Avenue in Madeira Beach from Saturday to Monday. 

Through the sting, undercover detectives were solicited by unlicensed specialty contracting suspects who offered to perform illegal unlicensed contracting work at the store front.

One suspect was referred to the State Attorney’s Office for two additional criminal charges.

These charges include unlicensed specialty contracting violations, workers compensation fraud and various other criminal charges unrelated to unlicensed contractor.

Detectives said the unlicensed contractors were found advertising on websites like Facebook, Craiglists, Next Door and more.

Citizens can also report violations of unlicensed contracting by contacting the sheriff’s office at 727-582-6200.
