Past flooding a reminder as Pasco residents prepare for storm

PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — Memories of streets and homes under water and flooded out still fresh in the minds of those in Pasco County as preparations began both inside and out on Sunday morning.

“Flooding is elongates the response process. We have to wait on water to go down before we can actually go down and start the recovery process. There are two distinct parts of the disaster, the response process and the recovery process,” said Pasco Emergency Operations Manager Kevin Guthrie.

Outside the EOC, Pasco County inmates stuffed sand bags for residents preparing to stay dry and wait it out, some for the very first time.

“We just moved down from New York City! We are retired now and I was watching the news and panicked!” said Clara Crotty, who was picking up sand bags.

“Here we go again! I saved my bags from last time, but I have an elderly neighbor who needs help,” said Russell Harbison, who knew it was time to head out and fill up his trunk after seeing the weather forecast.WHAT OTHERS ARE CLICKING ON RIGHT NOW:
