Teen arrested for writing letter to Santa about shooting up Pasco school

Pasco County

WESLEY CHAPEL, Fla. (WFLA) – A Pasco County high school student has been arrested after deputies say he left a letter for Santa saying he was going to shoot up his school.

The 15-year-old was arrested on Monday, six months after deputies say he left the letter in a letterbox for Santa at a Macy’s in Wesley Chapel.

According to an arrest report released by the Pasco Sheriff’s Office, the letter was found on Nov. 4 and included a threat directed toward Wiregrass Ranch High School.

Deputies say the letter stated, “I have been planning this for im [sic] I am shooting up Wiregrass Ranch High School.” The letter had another student’s name scratched out and then written again, according to the arrest report. Deputies said in the arrest report the student whose name was on the letter was not involved.

Pasco deputies were able to track the 15-year-old suspect down using latent prints that were left on the letter.

When deputies spoke with the teen, they say he denied writing the letter or being in Macy’s. He was arrested and charged with written threats to kill or do bodily harm.
