Port Richey Mayor Dale Glen Massad has resigned on Friday, hours after he was suspended from office by Governor Ron DeSantis.

A special election will be held on a date to be determined.
Port Richey Mayor Dale Glen Massad has been suspended from office by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, effective immediately.
According to a news release, DeSantis signed an executive order formally suspending Massad as mayor of Port Richey.
“Dale Glen Massad is clearly unfit to continue serving as Mayor for the City of Port Richey,” said DeSantis. “It is in the best interest of the residents of the City of Port Richey and citizens of the state of Florida that Dale Glen Massad be immediately suspended from public office.”
Massad was arrested Thursday after he shot at deputies who served an arrest warrant at his home.
A four-month investigation found that the mayor had been practicing medicine without a license and would have patients come to the home for various treatments.
Massad appeared before a judge Friday to face five counts of attempted murder, four counts of practicing medicine without a license and two counts of illegal use of a 2-way communication device.
