PASCO COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Pasco County Fire Rescue recently purchased three wireless extrication tools, called Hurst Jaws of Life, that will be used throughout the county.
Captain Darrin Dieters says the new tools are actually more efficient than the old tools, because there it takes less time and equipment to use.
“They are extremely fast coming off the truck. We are able to start our extrication very rapidly on the scene,” said Captain Darrin Dieters.
In a job where timing plays a major role, this new wireless tool allows the firefighters to cut down their rescue time. Captain Dieters also says these new tools are not just for cutting through vehicles; they can also be used in other emergencies, giving the department the opportunity to save more lives.
“We can go into a structural collapse. We could force entry on a structure. We could use these tools in other ways that we wouldn’t traditionally use them,” added Capt. Dieters.
Pasco Fire Rescue purchased three sets of the Hurst Jaws of Life. They are currently in the process of applying for a grant so they can purchase more.
