DADE CITY, Fla. (WFLA) — One person was killed and two others were wounded during a shooting at Watson Park in Dade City on Saturday evening.
According to the Dade City Police Department, officers were called to the park in regard to a “large disturbance,” where it was reported that shots were fired into a crowd gathered for a birthday party.
During the shooting, police said three people were shot with an “unknown caliber firearm.” Authorities stated that the victims were all adults and that one of them died from their injuries.
In an update Sunday, the Dade City Police Department announced that it’s unknown who started that altercation as the investigation is ongoing.
Police also stated that the individuals involved in the incident were “involved in an ongoing dispute that’s been happening over the past few months.”
According to earlier reports, a woman was wounded in the exchange and was rushed to Advent Health hospital in Zephyrhills, according to city commissioner Knut Nathe. The extent of her injuries is unknown and there is no word on her condition.
On Sunday, police said one of the victims was treated for their injuries and released. The second victim was admitted and “is reported to be in stable condition and will remain hospitalized for observation.”
It is unknown if the person released was the woman victim.


On Saturday, Nathe wrote in a Facebook post that shots rang out during an argument between two men at around 7 p.m. Dade City police said shots were fired into a crowd gathered in the park for a birthday party.
“One man discharged a firearm into the ground, and the other discharged his firearm into the other man, who died at the scene,” Nathe wrote. Dade City police said officers were still investigating who started the altercation.
There were several emergency vehicles at the park in the hours following the incident. A basketball court is roped off with caution tape, along with the vehicles parked nearby.
The Pasco County Sheriff’s Office said their deputies were called to assist. Zephyrhills police vehicles were also present at the park.
