Former Zephyrhills officer charged with attempted homicide in road-rage case

ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla, (WFLA) – A former Zephyrhills police officer has been charged with attempted homicide after a road rage incident.

Zephyrhills police tell News Channel 8 on June 10 just after 6:00 p.m. officers responded to the intersection of C Avenue and Court Street in regards to an alleged shooting and battery.

A Pasco Sheriff’s Deputy witnessed a Honda Civic traveling at a high rate of speed with two motorcyclists following behind. As the driver of the Honda Civic attempted to break one motorcyclist Cory Alan Kitzler was thrown from his motorcycle after crashing into the Honda Civic.

The second motorcyclist Christopher Fern got off his motorcycle and began to punch the driver of the Honda Civic. Fern then took out a 9mm handgun from his waistband and fired a round into the Civic striking a pillar near the driver. 

Fern was employed as a Zephyrhills Police Officer for seven months between 2005-2006 before being terminated for conduct unbecoming of a Zephyrhills Police Officer

Fern was arrested and charged with attempted homicide and burglary with a battery therein. Kitzler a documented gang member, was arrested for violation of probation, expired license, no motorcycle endorsement, and reckless driving.

The victim received minor injuries to the face.
