ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The mother of a preemie in New Mexico is not happy with a hospital’s response after a nurse accidentally cut the baby’s toe off.
Little Davante Hogue has battled a host of complications since he and his twin brother were born prematurely last April. The twins were only 29 weeks old when they were born.
Davante is being cared for at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque.
Last month, a nurse at the hospital accidentally severed his left pinky toe while cutting tape that was holding an IV in his foot.
A surgeon tried to save the toe, but could not.
Davante’s mother Erica Hogue says the hospital investigated and has apologized.
“For me that is just not enough. I believe my baby is worth so much more than that.” she said.
A hospital representative can’t comment.
Hogue told KOB TV that she and her husband are considering legal action.
