SAN DIEGO — A driver was shot in the face and crashed Thursday night in the Linda Vista neighborhood, according to police.
Authorities say the 20-year-old was shot through the driver’s side window of his car after picking up food from Jack in the Box around 9 p.m. The bullet struck the driver in the cheek, causing him to lose control of his white Nissan Altima and crash into a street post on Ulric Street.18-year-old driver, 21-year-old passenger killed in crash
“The guy got shot by Jack in the Box and then he drove over here and he passed out,” an eyewitness told FOX 5.
Police say the driver was talking and conscious after the incident. He was taken to an area hospital and “will be okay,” the department said in a tweet.
Few details were available about potential suspects in the shooting. According to police, they may have been driving a dark, four-door sedan. Traffic was shut down in the area while police were on the scene investigating.
Anyone with information is asked to call the department at 619-531-2000.
In a since-deleted tweet, the department also described the victim as a driver for a specific delivery company and said that he was shot while out on the job. That message has been removed from Twitter, however, and when FOX 5 reached out to the company Friday morning, they said they were investigating but could not immediately confirm the victim was an employee.
FOX 5 has reached out to other delivery companies in the area and to SDPD for clarity on the deleted message.
