Mosaic volunteers help with Duette tornado damage

DUETTE, FL. (WFLA) – It’s been nearly two weeks since a tornado struck Duette.

In many spots throughout Duette, not much has changed. The town is very rural, and it’s going to take time for residents to rebuild. On Friday volunteers gave a helping hand.

A team of volunteers from Mosaic visited Duette to help clean up the storm damage. They spent a lot of the morning at Issac Carlton’s property. For nearly two weeks now, Carlton has had a large checklist of problems to fix. “(The tornado) damaged all the fences where it come through,” he said.

The storm also killed two of Carlton’s nearby neighbors. He’s still emotional thinking about it. Carlton said, through tears, “Good friends. Both of them good friends of ours.”

Folks in the area are dealing with a lot. So the Mosaic volunteers thought they could help out. They wanted to come sooner, but the weather would not allow it.

“When something like that doesn’t happen to you, it’s incumbent upon you to help some of the people going through this stuff,” Bart Arrington, a Mosaic permitting manager said.

But it’s more than just a good deed. Most of these Mosaic employees work in Duette. Carlton knows some of them on a first-name basis. They’re all neighbors.

“Unless you come out and help them in their time of need, there’s no better way to demonstrate being a good neighbor in times like these,” Arrington said.

“Good to have friends and good neighbors,” Carlton said about the help.RELATED STORIES:
