WATCH: Futuristic 700 mph pod would transport people from Tampa to Orlando!

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) - Imagine getting from Tampa to Orlando in just a few minutes! That could be possible if a high-tech hyperloop comes to town.

Right now, there are talks of that happening and there’s another meeting happening today that could move along that process.

Many families would love another option to get to Disney other than I-4. The busy interstate backs up for hours, several times a day. With the hyperloop, people could get there much faster!

Here is how the high speed tube system would work. Passengers would travel in a pod through a low pressure tube at speeds up to 700 miles an hour.

The futuristic idea, developed by Elon Musk, be a reality for the Tampa Bay area in as little as three years.

Right now the project is only being talked about and there are no concrete plans that it’ll even happen. But key players of transportation planning are certainly open to the idea.

“There are a lot of people who come to Florida for the great theme parks in Orlando area and are looking to get to the beach. Clearwater is one of the highest rated beaches in the country if not the world so having a better connection between Orlando and Clearwater, Saint Pete would be important for us,” said Beth Aldean, who is with the Hillsborough Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The meeting happening today is at an undisclosed location.
