There was a unique display at a Bay Area library of slaves portrayed in a different way.
A former newspaper reporter and painter has a display called, Unstolen Dignity”… They are artistic portraits of slaves.
Ladale Lloyd’s work had been displayed at Tampa’s Robert Saunders library for Black History Month.
Lloyd used old photos of former slaves or immediate descendants of slaves to create these paintings .
He says it’s important to show the dignity of the people who were enslaved.
“Portraying them in a dignified… showing them as human beings and not tattered and worn. The one thing I noticed about all of them is they all presented themselves in a dignified fashion,” he said.
