TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Tampa Electric customers can expect to see a one-time refund on their energy bills. However, it won’t come until January.
After a change in the federal tax law in 2017, TECO used the savings from 2018 to cover storm costs after Hurricane Irma and several other named storms. A remaining balance of $11.5 million was left over after the storm costs were paid.
The average TECO residential customer, which included anyone who uses 1,000 kilowatt-hours a month, will see a refund of about $8. The refund will appear as a separate line item on the January bill.
