Tampa Hispanic Heritage, Inc. has selected  Adri Colina as the 2018 Hispanic Woman of the Year and Tony Morejon as the 2018 Hispanic Man of the Year.

THHI selects a Hispanic man and Hispanic woman for their life-time achievements and are recognized at the Hispanic Woman and Hispanic Man of the Year Gala.

Adriana “Adri” M. Colina was born in 1969 to parents Elsa Ciucio and the late Jack Ciucio, Sr. She is a proud 3rd generation Tampa native, a Tampeña of Sicilian, Spanish and Cuban descent; the ‘Tampa Trifecta’. She graduated from Leto High School, obtained her AA degree in Liberal Arts from Hillsborough Community College, and her BA degree with honors in Human Resource Management from St. Leo University. Adri is a 29 year public servant who began her City of Tampa career in 1989 in a clerical position while furthering her education. Today Adri oversees the City of Tampa’s Solid Waste Department’s $148 million budget, communications, public relations and outreach efforts, management of the City’s recycling and environmental programs, Audit & Contracts and Quality Control. She is the creator, host and producer of ¿Qué Pasa Tampa?, the City of Tampa Television’s Spanish language television program.

Anthony “Tony” Morejon was born in 1958 in the Bronx in New York City to parents Rosa Rocio Morejon and Jose Antonio Morejon, who emigrated from Cuba two years earlier. Tony’s family moved to Tampa, Florida in 1970 and he graduated from Leto High School. Tony obtained his AA degree from Hillsborough Community College where he was later recognized as a distinguished Alumni, and a BA degree from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. Tony began his government career in 1983 with the State of Florida working for the Department of Health and Rehabilitative Services. His first assignment was in the Ruskin office and he rode the bus because he couldn’t afford the gas to get there. He met Hillsborough County staff and soon applied for a social worker position with Hillsborough County, where he worked an inner-city office for seven years. In 1994, Tony became Hillsborough County’s Hispanic Affairs Liaison and he continues to serve in this role today. He is responsible for establishing and maintaining relations between Hillsborough County government and the Hispanic community. He also consults with different agencies on Hispanic issues on behalf of the community. He is the current host of “Informes Latinos” since 1995, Hillsborough County’s longest running television program and Spanish language program conveying information about Hillsborough County Government and its services. He also serves as co-host for “Vistas” since 1999, an award winning television program dedicated to showcasing Hillsborough County’s Hispanic and Latin influences.

The Hispanic Woman and Hispanic Man of the Year Gala is a formal event. Great entertainment and food is included in the ticket price. Attendance usually includes the mayor, county commissioners, and prominent members of the community.
