Sarasota deputies have captured an armed man who was on the run after a SWAT situation.
The suspect, Jeremy Neipert, is now in custody, but it was not easy getting him to surrender.
The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office says its tactical unit found Jeremy Neipert about five miles from where they believed he was originally holed up. Investigators say Neipert was taken into custody around 1 a.m. on Monday. He was armed with two guns. Detectives had a warrant out for his arrest for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
That domestic assault triggered a SWAT team response in the 800-block of Bacon Avenue that lasted for hours. Around noon on Sunday, a woman told deputies Jeremy Neipert threatened to kill her. She says he had a firearm and possibly an AR-15 rifle. She and another man managed to escape the home and call 911.
Officers with multiple law enforcement agencies flooded the area and saw Neipert run into the home. Authorities ordered neighbors to stay inside as they tried to get him to surrender. A robot eventually went inside the home but Neipert wasn’t inside.
Authorities continued their search for him. Multiple CodeRED alerts were sent to people who live in the area advising them to stay indoors
The sheriff’s office says this is an ongoing investigation.
