The historic Saint Petersburg high school will soon get a beautiful new facelift. The campus first opened in 1898 and today there was a ground breaking for the new project.
Construction will include renovating historic building classrooms, auditorium and administration office space, building a new cafeteria and enlarged courtyard area and overall updates to infrastructure throughout the school. The school district has allocated more than 30 million for the project and school board officials say they can’t wait to see the outcome.
“This building stands out because if you notice the façade of the building it still has the historic palm base, it has the mosaic tiles, that will be refurbished and if you can think about what happened with the Vinoy hotel and all of the preservations and rehabilitation that went in to preserving some of those very historic pieces that is exactly what we are going to do here,” said Rene Flowers, chairperson.
The project is estimated to take around two years.
