Two people are facing charges after a Palmetto toddler tested positive for drugs, officials said.

According to a release, Kierstyn Lapek, 23, called 911 to report her 2-year-old son was unresponsive after apparently suffering a seizure.

Paramedics responded to the home in the 900 block of 21 st St. E. and the child was taken to the hospital.

Lab results from the boy’s hospital stay tested positive for cocaine and marijuana, officials said.

Doctors notified the sheriff’s office and MCSO detectives arrested Lapek and the child’s father, 28-year-old Devon Barendse for Child Neglect with Great Bodily Harm.  It’s unclear if any drugs were found at the home.

The child has since been released from the hospital, officials said.

No further details are immediately available.
