It’s a story that started up north, but flourished in Wesley Chapel. A couple running a restaurant that has them proud to be part of the community, and their customers saying Vamos Tampa Bay!
It’s easy to see why people love coming to the Latin Twist Café. It’s located at 2653 Bruce B Downs Blvd in Wesley Chapel.
“Roast pork, black beans, yellow rice, and sweet plantains. They love it,” says Jose Caba.
The creators of these culinary masterpieces are Virginia Jerez and her husband Jose Caba. They’ve been married for 25 years. Both are originally from the Dominican Republic but it was the Big Apple where they met. Ten years ago they decided to move to Tampa.
“Vacationing here brought us here. To give our kids a better life. Not a New York City life, but more green grass and a little bit more for them to enjoy,” says Virginia.
Here you’ll find many of your favorite Latin dishes like the Mofongo. Mashed plantains, with special seasoning, served up with large shrimp in a delicious sauce. It’s just one of several dishes that has customers coming back for more, and companies having them cater their events.
So what is the twist in Latin Twist Cafe?
“It’s a little bit of everything like Cuban, Puerto Rican (food),” says Jose.
“No! It’s working with your husband and wife team. That’s the twist in the business,” says Virginia laughing as Jose smiles at her.
Taking pride in the freshness of their meals, Jose and Virginia still shop for their own produce. They’re not just making people smile with their tasty food, they’re glad to be in Florida.
“We are Tampa Bay too. We love it. Like I said, we came from New York and nobody will move me out from here,” says Jose.
“Vamos Tampa Bay, I would say, here we are and we’re going to stay,” says Virginia!
