Nashville hot chicken seems to be everywhere you look these days… and that now includes Seminole Heights.

King of the Coop opened Wednesday on Florida Avenue.

The new spot, owned by Joe Dodd, opened out of his desire to bring good, simple food to the people of Tampa.

“People just want to eat simple food,” Dodd said. “And that’s all we’re trying to do.”

News Channel 8 political reporter Evan Donovan dropped by the new spot on Wednesday afternoon, and needless to say he was impressed.

It’s not just the hot chicken that’s good.

The jalapeno hush puppies were moist and delicious and the creamed collard greens were a new take on an old Southern favorite.

Drop by King of the Coop Sunday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 pm. and Friday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.
