Memorial bike ride held for mother, daughter killed by street racing teen

Local News

More than 100 people hopped on their bicycles Sunday to ride down Bayshore Blvd. and remember the mother and daughter killed on the roadway nearly two weeks ago.

On May 24, Jessica Raubenolt, 24, was pushing 21-month-old Lillia from the sidewalk near the bay toward a neighborhood when they were struck and killed by a teen who was reportedly racing another teenager, going 102 miles per hour.

On Sunday, scores of bikers rode from Gandy Blvd. to downtown Tampa, passing a makeshift memorial for the mother and toddler at the spot where they were killed. Many stopped by the memorial to pay their respects and say a prayer.

“We pray that the teenagers in the tampa bay area realize that one bad decision can effect your whole life and another family’s whole entire life.. so just be with the family,” one rider told News Channel 8.

The ride ended near the Convention Center at Sail Pavillion and the events organizers raffled off three bikes.

The money raised will go directly towards the victims’ family.

A GoFundMe page created for the family has surpassed its goal by nearly $86,000.
