MANATEE COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – An alligator in search of a good time strolled onto school property Wednesday morning but was trapped before he could meet the cool kids.

The studious reptile showed up at Palm View Elementary School, 6025 Bayshore Road in Palmetto before school hours Wednesday morning, Principal Kaththea Johnson said in a message to parents.

Johnson said they roped off the area and called 911 and trappers were sent to the school to remove the alligator from campus.

” I just want to emphasize that everyone is safe and I want to thank our school staff, law enforcement and Florida Wildlife for helping us to deal with this unusual event. Thank you for your constant support and we look forward to school tomorrow,” Johnson said.
