On Tuesday, a brave little girl faced a jury and shared the shocking details of her rape six years ago.
Her alleged attacker, Dominick Hawkins is on trial for the crime.
In 2013, prosecutors say Dominick Hawkins approached a 5-year-old girl at the Wayside Glen mobile home park in Bradenton.
That girl is now 11-years-old and lives in Texas. But she clearly remembers that awful day.
Since she’s a victim, we’re concealing her identity.
She said on June 15, 2013, she was playing outside when a strange man came up to her.
“A guy came and then he said, ‘Do you want any candy?’ So I went to the store with him,” she recalled.
The pair was captured on surveillance video.
“I got a candy, and then I was going to go back home, but then he told me, ‘Do you want to go to a party?’” said the girl.
Soon after, he lured her to an abandoned trailer and attacked her.
“He kept choking me, I tried to kick him, but he threw me on the ground and then he raped me,” she said.
After describing the attack, the girl fought back tears.
Following the assault, she says Hawkins locked her in the trailer, so she plotted her escape.
“I said, ‘I don’t have enough time until he comes back.’ So I saw a window and it was opened a little, so I tried to fit through there and I got out and I ran back home,” said the girl.
A bus surveillance video then shows Hawkins frantically trying to leave town, the little girl can be seen running away.
If convicted, Hawkins, now 41, could face life in prison.
The trial is expected to wrap up by Friday.
