Largo police investigating fatal officer-involved shooting

A Largo police officer was injured when shots were fired during a traffic stop on Friday.

According to the Largo Police Department, a suspect attempted to pin the officer between his vehicle and the gas pumps and barriers at the Wawa store at 1215 N. Missouri Avenue around 5:55 p.m.

Officer Matthew Steiner, a 7-year veteran of the department, fire several shots in self-defense, hitting the suspect.

Steiner was taken to Morton Plant Hospital with non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect was taken to largo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.

The suspect’s identity has not been confirmed.
