The Hernando County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a deadly home invasion that happened early Tuesday morning.

Deputies responded to a home at 12271 Legend Street at 1:05 a.m. after receiving a report of a home invasion.

Deputies found a man inside the home who had been beaten and shot. The man’s wife and child were also in the home, but were not injured.

The man was transported to an area hospital where he later died from his injuries.

Investigators said the incident does not appear to be random and is possibly drug-related.

Deputies, a K-9, and the HCSO Air Unit, searched the area for possible suspects, but did not find anyone.

“It appears they’ve left the area,” said Hernando County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Terry Michael.

Deputies are interviewing the deceased man’s wife to gather more information.

No other details have been released.
