A Hernando County man is facing several charges after deputies say he punched a woman who had three small children in the back seat during a road rage incident.
Hernando County deputies responded to a battery call Friday evening near the Suntrust Bank on Mariner Boulevard in Spring Hill. When they got to the scene, the victim told them she had been driving on County Line Road in her Nissan Altima when a man in a Honda Pilot started acting aggressive toward her and her three young children who were in the back seat of her car.
The woman said the man, later identified as 59-year-old Angel Ramirez Jr., would not let her merge into one lane of traffic on County Line Road. She told deputies Ramirez bumped her car and ran her off the road onto the shoulder. The bump caused $800 worth of damage to the rear bumper on the victim’s car, according to an arrest report.
The victim continued driving to get away from Ramirez but eventually stopped at Mariner Bouelvard and Quality Drive. She told deputies Ramirez then got out of his SUV in the middle of Mariner Boulevard and walked up to her door. As he was approaching, the victim said she saw a black handgun holstered on the man’s side, which scared her because she had her three toddlers with her.
The arrest report says Ramirez kicked the victim’s car door, causing $400 in damage, then started banging on her window while cursing at her. Deputies say Ramirez then reached through the woman’s window and punched her in the temple before quickly leaving the scene.
The victim was then able to call law enforcement, who spoke with her and several witnesses. The victim told deputies all three of her children were distraught and crying in the backseat.
Deputies later found Ramirez at a home on Daroca Avenue in Spring Hill and arrested him. Ramirez told them he got angry because he felt like he was being cut off multiple times by the victim. He admitted to approaching her car but denied hitting her car and denied punching her, the arrest report says.
According to deputies, Ramirez was armed with a Glock model 30 .45 Caliber semi-automatic handgun – the gun that the victim saw holstered on his side. Deputies say Ramirez told them he keeps his gun unloaded in the center console of his SUV and his magazine in his glovebox. He said he inserted the magazine in the gun and put it in his holster before approaching the victim, according to the arrest report.
Ramirez was arrested for aggravated battery, armed burglary and criminal mischief. He was also charged with possession of marijuana because deputies say they found the substance in his shirt. Ramirez told them he smoked marijuana for pain, the arrest report says.
