BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) – A Hernando County School Resource Officer is being hailed a hero after he saved a student from choking in the cafeteria.
It happened Tuesday at West Hernando Middle School in Brooksville. Deputy Shane Landgraff was in the cafeteria when he was told of a student choking. Deputy Landgraff sprang into action when he noticed the student holding their neck and chest area and struggling to breathe.
Deputy Landgraff immediately administered three back blows to the choking student.
The blows caused the student to dislodge the stuck food. Deputy Landgraff then worked to assess the student to ensure the student was stable.
Once the student’s breathing returned to normal, the student was taken to the school nurse for further observation and was able to make a full recovery and returned to class later the same day.
