Residents in a Hernando County neighborhood are OK to go outside again after a search for an armed man in Brooksville.
Anthony “Andy” Rodgers was caught and arrested around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. The search for the 26-year-old began just before 1 p.m. when deputies were called to investigate a suspicious incident on Ponce de Leon Boulevard near Ganz Drive. According to the sheriff’s office, someone called 911 about a man with a gun being at a neighbor’s house.
Deputies arrived at the scene of what they believed to be a domestic dispute. When they got there, they say Rodgers ran from them and ignored several commands to stop.
While the man was running, deputies say they noticed what appeared to be a gun in his hand. A spokesperson for the sheriff’s office says the man was also seen holding and discarding bags of what they believe is methamphetamine and marijuana.
Deputies, K9 units and an aviation unit responded to the scene to search. Residents were asked to stay in their homes with their doors locked while deputies searched. Several schools in the area were also put on lockdown.
The sheriff’s office says Rodgers is a convicted felon facing charges of possession of methamphetamine and resisting arrest without violence. Additional charges are pending.
