TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Downtown Tampa will get a new look for the weekend.

Starting Friday through Sunday, the City of Tampa will light up orange to help raise awareness on gun violence.

“Every day 100 Americans are killed with guns,” said Mayor Jane Castor. “It’s incredibly important that the residents of the City of Tampa and those all across the country become educated on the growing epidemic. When we are no longer safe in our schools, our places of worship, our municipal buildings, our parks, our nightlife, we must act. Hopes and prayers are no longer enough – that’s why I pledge to work with elected leaders across the country put an end to this madness. Not one more death by gun violence is acceptable.”
