Authorities have recovered the body of a 66-year-old man from the Withlacoochee River three days after he was reported missing in Citrus County.
George Kiggans was last seen near his home in Inglis at about 2 p.m. Wednesday. On Saturday, officials announced his body was recovered from the Withlacoochee River.
“We utilized our resources as well as requested assistance from other organizations to assist in locating Mr. Kiggans,” said Citrus County Sheriff Prendergast. “This is not how we want any search to end and we are truly sorry for the family’s loss.”
“Diving in waters with zero visibility, coupled with an extremely strong current, made this one of the toughest missions our Dive Team encountered,” said CCSO dive team leader David Seidenstucker.
The sheriff’s office did not say whether they are treating the death as suspicious or provide any details regarding Kiggans’ cause of death.
