AAA is taking steps to make sure everyone gets home safe this St. Patrick’s Day weekend.

The group is activating its free “Tow to Go” service starting Friday night. The program runs through 6 a.m. Monday.

“To to Go” provides complimentary rides to impaired drivers who are trying to get themselves and their vehicle home. Over the weekend, AAA will give drivers and their cars a confidential ride to a safe location within 10 miles. The service is free to AAA members and non-members.

“Despite the availability of ridesharing apps like Uber and Lyft, people still make the critical mistake of driving while impaired. In some cases, that’s because people don’t want to leave their personal vehicle at a bar,” AAA spokesman Mark Jenkins said. “This St. Patrick’s Day, Floridians have no excuse for driving impaired. If you call ‘Tow to Go,’ we’ll make sure you and your vehicle are taken care of, for free.”

Federal officials say St. Patrick’s Day is one of the deadliest holidays on roads throughout the country. From 2013 to 2017, a total of 234 people have been killed in drunk-driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day holiday.

“‘Tow to Go’ saves lives, it’s that simple,” Jenkins said.

You can get a free ride from “Tow to Go” by calling (855) 2-TOW-2-GO or (855) 286-9246.

AAA says rides are based on the availability of drivers and tow trucks during times with high call volumes. The service also may not be available in some rural areas or if there is severe weather.
