Tampa woman, 21, accused of murdering neighbor, 74, with machete

Hillsborough County

A 21-year-old Tampa woman is accused of murdering her 74-year-old neighbor with a machete.

Tampa police say they received a phone call about the victim at 10:15 p.m. on Sunday. The caller wanted police to check on the welfare of their neighbor Eddie Quezada, 74.

Police responded to Quezada’s home on East Liberty Street. They arrived to find him deceased with multiple lacerations to his upper body.

The investigation led to a neighbor, Sarah Martinez, 21. Police say Martinez had borrowed money from Quezada and had asked him for help getting a job.

Police interviewed Martinez Thursday and say she offered inconsistent explanations about what happened, but ultimately admitted to striking Quezada.

Detectives say they do not know what motivated Martinez to kill Quezada.

Martinez was arrested on charges of First Degree Murder, Armed Burglary, and Attempted Robbery with a Deadly Weapon.
