TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Tampa police shut down part of Waters Avenue due to a deadly bicycle crash Thursday morning.
Police said the crash happened in the 2100 block of West Waters Avenue. The road was closed between North Armenia Avenue and North Fremont Avenue for about three hours.
Tampa police said the bicyclist, a man in his 40s, was traveling on the sidewalk on the north side of the road when he veered into a traffic lane in the roadway.
The man was then hit by a pickup truck, causing him to be knocked off his bike.
Officers tried to save the man’s life, however, he later died due to injuries sustained in the crash.
The pickup truck driver remained on the scene. No criminal charges or citations are pending.
All lanes on Waters Avenue have reopened.
