SURPRISE! Busch Gardens coaster Tigris opens to passholders

Hillsborough County

The wait is almost over for thrill seekers – Florida’s tallest launch coaster is officially set to open later this month at Busch Gardens Tampa Bay.

The new roller coaster, Tigris, is officially set to open Friday, April 19. Busch Gardens passholders will be able to ride Tigris during a special soft launch on Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday April 17.

Tigris is a triple-launch steel coaster. It will be the tallest launch coaster in the state and is the ninth roller coaster at Busch Gardens.

Tigris will reach speeds of more than 60 mph during its 1,800-foot journey. Riders will experience twists, drops, an inverted heartline roll and a 150-foot surge toward the sky.

The track is designed to “mimic the awe-inspiring agility of the world’s largest and most powerful cat – the tiger.”

While riders wait in line to ride Tigris, they will be able to learn about tigers in the wild and what conservationists are doing to try and save them. Five percent of the sales price of merchandise in the Tigris gift shop will be donated to the SeaWorld & Busch Gardens Conservation Fund to protect tigers and their habitat.

Busch Gardens says annual pass members will have access to exclusive ride time on Tigris the first two weekends in May before the ride opens for the day to general guests.
