“I was like in shock. because i could not believe it,” says Zoraida Corretjer whose daughter is a sixth-grader at Dowdell Middle Magnet School.
Corretjer is not the only one shocked to to hear that a 13 year old student is now in huge trouble for hiding a loaded gun on campus. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office, the teenager took the semi-automatic handgun out of his backpack and put it inside this large tractor tire near the bike racks on school property.

“I was kind of scared because I did not know what could happen,” says Corretjer’s daughter, Alondra who is in 6th grade at the school.
No one knows what could have happened, thanks to a brave student who saw the gun. After seeing the gun., the witness told an adult.

“We encourage our students that if they see something to say something to an adult, and this student did exactly the right thing,” ays Tanya Arja with Hillsborough County Public Schools.

The school resource deputy on duty found the gun in the tire and arrested the teenager.

“I’m really proud of him for acting the right way,” says Corretjer of the brave student.

The 13-year-old boy is charged with Possesing a Fire Arm on School Property.
