Scrap metal fire at Tampa recycling plant sends plumes of smoke into air

The Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to a large scrap metal fire at a recycling facility in Tampa, officials said. 

The fire broke out at Fedca Scrap Metals, 5501 E. Hanna Avenue at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday. 

Firefighters arrived to find 20-foot high section of burning scrap metal that was sending plumes of smoke into the air. Crews used an elevated attack of both foam and water knock down the flames and the fire was brought under control in about 30 minutes. 

There were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
