HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Plant City man was killed when his vehicle rear-ended a semi-truck on I-4 early Thursday morning.

At about 3 a.m., the Florida Highway Patrol responded to a crash in the eastbound lanes of the interstate near Mango Rd.

According to troopers, the driver of a semi-truck had pulled into the outside lane of the roadway to repair his truck after it overheated, then drove back onto the roadway where it was re-ended.

The other driver, 45-year-old Erik Adam Walton suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene of the crash.

It’s unclear if charges are pending.

The crash caused delays on I-4 for several hours.
