The suspected driver in a hit-and-run that left a 73-year-old bicyclist dead last month has turned himself in, authorities said.

Richard George Sheldon Jr., 44, was released from the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office after turning himself in on Friday, according to the agency.

Sheldon faces charges of leaving the scene of a crash with death, DUI manslaughter leaving the scene, DUI with property damage or personal injury and DUI in the Sept. 23 death of John Dilgard, of Riverview, an arrest report states.

Investigators said Dilgard was riding a bike in the area of Kings Ave. South and Calm Dr. when the vehicle Sheldon was driving struck him from behind, killing him.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to an arrest report.

Further details were not immediately available.
