Man charged with DUI after motorcyclist killed in Hillsborough I-4 crash

A motorcyclist from Brandon was killed and the driver of a truck was charged with DUI after a crash Friday morning on Interstate-4.

Florida Highway Patrol investigators say Andy Jackson Sanford. 23, of Brandon was driving a Honda motorcycle eastbound on I-4 at 1:45 a.m. Friday.

Sanford tried to pass a Dodge Ram pickup driven by Johnathon Thompson, 39, of Fort Lauderdale.

Sanford’s motorcycle crashed with the rear of the pickup truck just east of SR-574. After the crash, the pickup truck left the scene and was stopped by FHP troopers on Interstate-75.

Thompson was arrested for DUI, leaving the scene of a crash and driving with a suspended license.

Sanford died from his injuries.

The crash investigation closed two lanes of the interstate for more than four hours.
