Emilio Morales, 19, hung his head in court as the judge spoke. Then, for a moment, he appeared to claspe his hands in prayer.
He’s accused of taking off from the scene of a crash Saturday night, in the Wimauma area, that left Jeff Ringle dead, and his wife, Megan, hurt, Florida Highway Patrol troopers said.
“We talk to him on a daily basis,” next-door neighbor Madison O’Neill said. “He’s always outside in his garage, on his bike. It’s really upsetting.”
The news shocked O’Neill, who has known the Ringles for three years.
“They’re pretty good people and it’s very sad,” she said.
In court, the judge rattled off conditions of release, if Morales pays bond.
“No alcohol. No driving,” he said.
That bond was set at $150,000 bond, even though his attorney objected to it specifically since Morales went to FHP Troop C and admitted to the crash.
“He indicated to me that he actually turned himself in which is indicative of the fact that he won’t even be a flight risk.”
Megan Ringle remains in the hospital, according to a Facebook page set up by a family friend.
