The woman arrested for allegedly setting her home on fire in Lutz is now charged with animal cruelty for the dog left behind in the house.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office tells 8 On Your Side that Brandi Corrigan, 40, faces animal cruelty charges in addition to charges of arson and drug possession for the house fire on Aug. 25.
The dog living in the home, “Denali,” suffered severe burns and was nearly killed due to the extremity of the injuries. She is still recovering at Blue Pearl Animal Hospital in Tampa.
Over the weekend, Suncoast Animal League posted an update on their Facebook page, showing a video of Denali making her most significant progress yet.
Doctors at Blue Pearl say Denali has experienced both “good days and bad days” as she fights to survive. Managing her pain levels, which are described as extreme, and treating her wounds are the hospital’s top priority, doctors say.
