Hillsborough sheriff’s office employee arrested for using, selling gift cards meant to aid families

HILLSBOROUGH COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office employee was arrested on Friday on grand theft and fraudulent use of a credit card charges.

According to the sheriff’s office, Kristine Brois was an HCSO employee at the Child Protective Investigations Division. 

Brois had access to activated gift cards used to aid children and families in need and was entrusted with maintaining and reconciling the cards as part of her job.

The sheriff’s office said Brois admitted to personally using or selling 11 $500 gift cards without the knowledge or consent of the sheriff’s office.

“I am disappointed to find out that one of our own employees would take advantage of the very children she was charged with helping,” said Sheriff Chad Chronister.

“I ashamed of this behavior which does not reflect our culture here at the Sheriff’s Office.”

Brois was an administrative specialist and was employed for over 21 years.

She is suspended without pay pending the outcome of the investigation.
