A 41-year-old man who was shot and killed by officers in Tampa Sunday was wanted for murder in Georgia, police said.

Timothy Wyatt, is believed to have shot and killed his girlfriend and wounded her two juvenile sons.  A third son was unharmed, South Fulton Police Department in Georgia said.

Around 6:15 p.m., the Tampa Police Department learned a fugitive may be hiding out in the Tampa area.

Police located Wyatt’s vehicle, a white Chevy Impala, and started trailing him. When Wyatt realized he was being followed, he started shooting at police, then led officers on a brief pursuit.

Police said the chase ended near the corner of 28th Avenue and 15th Street, when Wyatt abandoned his vehicle and tried to carjack an innocent bystander.

At that point, the officers and Wyatt began exchanging gunfire and he was “taken down,” police said.

Wyatt was pronounced dead at the scene.

None of the four officers involved in the shooting were injured, police said.

“We’re very fortunate no innocent people were injured. We’re very fortunate no police officers were injured. It’s a sad outcome, but this is what our cops deal with every single day. There is no routine day of work for them. Any time you stop a car, you never know what you’re going to get involved with,” said Tampa Police Chief Brian Dugan.

On Monday,  WFLA News Channel 8 obtained video that was recorded by a bystander that shows Wyatt as he tries to carjack the vehicle. (watch above)

Wyatt can be seen in the upper right corner of the video getting out of a white car. The car matches the description of the car officers say they were pursing.

He then lifts his arms and appears to be shooting at officers.

Wyatt runs up to a SUV and tries to get in. Police say he attempted to carjack the vehicle.

Wyatt is then seen coming around the SUV and is shot dead by officers.

Police say two guns were found on the suspect.
