Former ALF employee accused of pawning wedding rings of elderly residents

Hillsborough County

Hillsborough County deputies are searching for a man accused of stealing from elderly residents at the assisted living facility he was employed at.

Detectives say between June 10 and June 14 of this year, Dian’te Matthew, a Certified Nursing Assistant employed at Arbor Terrace Assisted Living Facility, stole a wedding ring from a 91-year-old
woman. He’s accused of pawning the ring at Mr. Money Pawn on June 14.

As detectives searched his past pawns, they located a second victim at Arbor Terrace. That victim’s wedding band was pawned on May 26.

Luckily, detectives were able to track down both rings and return them to the victims. But, they believe there are more victims.

Detectives are now searching for Matthew, who was terminated earlier this month for not showing up to work. He has not been seen since then.

The Arbor Company released this statement to News Channel 8:

“The safety and security of our residents is of the greatest importance and we take situations like this very seriously. We conduct a Level 2 background check on every employee and that information is shared with the Agency for Healthcare Administration, which regulates our communities. The individual is no longer an employee at the community and was terminated as of June 16, 2018. At this point, this is a law enforcement matter and questions should be directed to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.”

Matthew has an active warrant for grand theft, dealing in stolen property, defrauding a pawnbroker and exploitation of an elderly person.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at 813-247-8200.
